The First Words…

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Saturday, May 5, 2007

The first words
Spoken aloud to me,
This morning, were
“There were maggots
In the cat dishes, I
Cleaned them out.” X five.

The first thoughts
Spoken to me, as I got up,
Were about maggots,
And I cursed their silky sides,
And my irresponsibility,
Within our six-fold cat lives.

The first words
Spoken to me
In a new-dawn morning,
Were about maggots,
Not aggregates,
Where Our ever-always reside.

Well good morning to the deliverer of the news, too!! Not exactly the gentle sunrise, moment of peaceful bliss that we all wish for, but none the less an alarm to wake us and deliver us to the day. I hope the rest of your day is better, Erin. Maggots are a sign of warmer weather...after the thaw, the maggots arrive...sounds like a great title for a novel.
Take care,
Sherry
