No One Wants To Touch My Skin

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Thursday, September 20, 2007

No one wants to touch my skin,
Not even myself. Invisible layers
Of humanity’s deeds
Armor my real skin
Within naught.

I’ve been built upon History!

Nowadays, if I see a curve,
Or an angle, within my own skin,
I cringe. It’s so everything
Of humanity. All the sex,
And the war, and the fury.

Within what is my skin
Is naught.
Within my skin is
Everything.

"...humanity’s deeds

People don't seem to realize their effect on others, or perhaps don't care. This can cause an internal pain or joy - depending on the giver. Everything that happens to us, becomes us.

It is the "knowing" of what we are under our skin that sustains us throughout life. If we can spiritually wash ourselves daily, the real "us" becomes the shining star. I enjoyed this write very much.
thank you
My best regards,
Chris

Erin,

Good morning (at least, here in Texas). :)

The more things change, the more things stay the same. Man's misdeeds have contaminated our skin until we feel ashamed. This is the impression I got reading your words (right or wrong). There is a poignancy, a reluctance, to claim yourself among humans...still and all, a thought provoking write. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
