Stilled Life of a Dragonfly

Poem Artwork

When life departs the heart of dragonfly,
Stilled form is frozen into time. When strife
Drowns a dragonfly in sticky webs, life
Unsurvives as dragonfly’s story dies.

I think the spider kept the dragonfly,
Dead, yet imprisoned in its web, to view
The beauty now inside the spider due
To need to feel the conquest new. When lies

Of waring wedded bliss beguiles a guise
Into the reality of life, death
Awaits with fated fangs of divineness.
When kiss rapports the heart of dragonfly,

A bug hurries flight to die. When spider
Snags a dragonfly, the world seems thinner.

Sometimes I wonder why I notice things nobody else notices, why I write about things nobody else thinks about, why I feel things differently than anyone else. Then I read something like this and I realize the answer was obvious all along... I'm a poet.

This one is wonderfully poignant and spectacular in presentation. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Enjoyed this, Erin. Reminds me of when I was building a dock across my alder swamp in Canada, where there are dragon flies by the hundreds of thousands eating mosquitoes by the millions. As the mosquitoes swarmed about me the dragon flies would come in and grab them near my skin. It was a little unnerving until I caught on to what was happening.

I agree. When a dragonfly dies the world is a little thinner.
Love and {{{{{{hugs}}}}},
Leland

Erin,

Spiders gotta do what spiders gotta do. Unfortunately. But such beauty in your lines: well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"the beauty now inside the spider"-thought provoking in its own way

Interesting piece of the death of a dragonfly, yet its beauty lives on and life all around continues....

Be safe,
Karen
