My Back Screen Door

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Monday, May 26, 2008

Something zither
Othered off
As I approached
My back screen door.

Something tethered
Dithered off,
Not to be fully seen,
At my back screen door.

Something thither
Figured off,
Shaped like a cat,
Pausing at my back-screen door.

This is like catching something haunting and mysterious in peripheral vision. The repetitions of meaning work tremendously well, coupled with the slippery feel of the words to convey feelings of ambivalence and confusion. Intriguing and arousing, and done without overstating each phase - achieved by your original use of diction. Makes the hairs on my neck stand on end! Very good work, Erin, thank you. Kate xx
