I got to thinking,
Watching the new ‘Andromeda Strain’,
How much actual science, instead
Of fear, mirrored the same
Sense of urgency to continue.

I thought,
“What balderdash!
To focus on one element,
Sulfur, just now!” Sulfur rocks,
Unequivocally. Not as a solid,
As an elemental precipiant.

What if
Each Element we propound to classify
Has a life of its own? A planet, a universe,
A time, an adverse opposite? What about
The eye of god? Does it advance with its
Adherents?

What if an element
Of an Element flashed its eyes
In sunlight? Would ‘we’ see it?
Would we know?
Why would we?
Stars have their own lives,
We have ours.

My youngest sister is dead, and
The skies have changed.
