Sick of Crap or; Thank God! 0r; Cockroach In My Ear!

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Friday, May 29, 2009

Sometimes I get sick of ‘Singsongs’,
Of inspirational poetry. I’m glad,
At first, to see others strength,
But, it’s not mine. I once had a
Cockroach lodged in my left ear.

Strength? Phew! I leapt up
Out of bed knowing exactly
What it was! In my left ear! Too
Big to back up, it scrabbled
With insect feet, against my eardrum…

It drove me crazy! I lost it!
Started running round in circles,
House-wise and head-wise! It didn’t
Matter, the scratching movement
Hardly stopped. I wasn’t quite screaming,

But was screamily panicked. We tried peroxide
And rubbing alcohol to help back its way out,
Didn’t work. I could hardly stand still,
The horror overwhelmed me! Finally,
My husband ripped off its butt with a tweezers.

That did it! The insect died
Within my ear canal. Horribly, unspeakably.
Two ER’s later, about eight hours in total,
The pieces of this bug were removed from my
Ear, with the right tool.

My point? I think religions are
A tool, not a cockroach. Or some such is…

Hi Erin, I LOVE this! I find myself itching my ear when reading or hearing the same Crap! I have to go check for roaches now, (not the kind Ed has).. LOL... A tool is right!!!! Thank you for sharing this...

When cockroaches get in the ear, inspiration be hanged. *shudders* I think religion flies out the window, then - wow. Pray that never happens to me, and sorry it did, to you ... very well penned, Erin, these engaging lines that kinda creep me out. *shudders* I hates cockroaches ...

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Although a little on the dark side as to the very essence of the bug in the ear (which gave me the heebie Jeebies completely lol) this also makes a statement and although hard to define that statement I think it allows the reader to draw their own conclusions about the issue of what religion should be or shouldn't be in a spiritual sense.

Very bizarre story. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction!
