My Husband Brings Me Pens(cils)

You know, if you think
About it, Winter is red,
And Summer is green.

My husband brings me home,
From work, pens. And
Mechanical pencils. So many
Pens through seventeen yrs. I love
Testing each out. I’m
Using red, right now, it’s
Been a precipitous winter,
Here, in Arizona. Still here.

Okay, now I’m trying green,
I’m not really trying it, I live it,
In Arizona, even in winter. Bulb greens
Are shooting up, my ‘monster lavender
Full blooms every few months, Grandpa
Rosemary, rain or shine, purples
Continuously. Yet, green dissolves

To pencil. Start with
Pencil, end
With pencil, soul-wise,
I guess. I am a pencil,

And a pen…
