Eyes-Star-Struck...Not! (Ode to the Leonids)

I woke up in the middle of the night,
got reading about the sight, others had seen..
so I jumped up, oughtta my chair,
wrapped my big robe 'round me,
to stop cool night's air,
and took myself outside, star-struck..
First shock of aumumn's night-time cold,
made me wish I hadn't been so bold, but I stood,
and gazed at the skies of softened wash,
full moon's glow being not so low,
eagerly awaiting a flash,
my streak of star-hued luck..
The minutes of seeping cold slowly spun by, and,
as I'm peering way up high, I saw some lights
shooting and scooting so fast, but,
that didn't look right,
the colors weren't so bright,
more like man-made star-muck..
I gasped, in my mind, and heard myself mutter,
"UFO!", believing it was so, I was all aflutter,
then, oh my god, there is another!
But, this one I could see,
was not going to fool me,
it had the star-backed form of a duck!
I look to the first light, and see there are more,
highways of light, I hear jet-fuel's faint roar,
how could this be, no streaking for me!
I turn to the house without gains,
cursing low-flying night planes,
and NOT with eyes-star-struck!
