The Colors and Shapes of Cats and Dogs

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Earth-toned rainbows
furrily walk their world,
with mismatched paws, seeing
their fellows,
through the light of darkness,
as hues of themselves...

Multi-shaped friendships,
shaggily wag their tails
with joy of life, seeing
their comrades,
through the brightness of light,
as forms of themselves...

Brain-wise humans,
insist that they are more
than narrowed minds, seeing
their brothers,
through the blight of their lives,
as foes of themselves....

Now,
whose view is right?

Inspired by Tien Avielle's piece, "humankind's fall", and the fact that yesterday, walking to the store, my kids and I saw a dead cat of gray and white, and today, driving to the store, we saw a live cat crossing our path of black and white, somebody hit the first cat with their car, we carefully avoided hitting the second. Bits and pieces of thoughts, meeting and mating, again. Came out different than I first concepted it...it's not really about animals who die, more how we perceive our "life" on different levels of existance on this planet. :)
