String of Life
by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen
(In her dream's light,
she holds the starting knot tightly,
fingering it's hopeful shape,
trembling slightly, engrossed,
she watches as Time
begins to weave her fate.)
Sweet youth's pink toned soaring with sun-yellow dreams
and childhood memories of lavendar-green,
encircle the blue and red roughness of string,
tight woven start to the nature of being.
(She gazes along, and smiles,
burgeoning maturity swoons
with mixed feelings, and
tiny snarls and frays
appear, patchable with
silken energy and care.)
Sky blues and grey rains of lover's brand new sight,
combine with angst shadows of zinc's orange-white
beginning the pattern of future's unknown,
pausing to add the hue of world's arctic cold.
(She sees herself reach
her gossamer hands, wanting
to feel the giddiness
of time's placement,
noting stains of life's
accumulation.)
Blurring swirls of color speed weaving of string,
cacophonous purples and dark blues coil-cling,
fraying the warp's colored strength and creating
thickening strands weight, with metallic plating.
(Eyes traveling along
the contoured curves of her story,
widen with enchantment,
as star-blazed glow
of children
moltenly intertwine.)
Passage to new worlds of platinum design,
undulate with two girl's of silver divine,
looping new orbits with magenta fluoresce,
covering day's thread in rainbow's fancy dress.
(Future's mist of new time
descends into view, clouding
her vision's breathing sighs,
awakening, she sees far ahead
another life-shaped knot,
held in gossamer hands.)
