Somewhere...

She stirs the eggs, making breakfast
for her family, but she is miles away,
thinking and wondering on
differences in lives. Somewhere,
someone is starving, dying,
weakly crying. Somewhere,
a mind goes blank,
a soul departs, flying
through the deep black hearts
of pain and misery...
crumpled wings regaining
balance, but aware
of the loss of earthly flesh.
And as she pours the juice,
she feels the shadowy brush
of feathers...somewhere
there is peace of mind,
but not here, not now,
only world's weight,
and fading dreams
slipping out
of soul's keep,
crippling life.

there is peace of mind,
