Cherished...

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Tonight,
my loss was complete
etched deeply forever
in my besaddened mind...

My delicate-legged,
lanky-bodied
black and white kitten,
is forever...gone.

Oh, sure, he is on my
daughter's wall, in two pictures
of utmost animal beauty,
the one of a young baby cat,
sleepy head showing
over the quilt she doesn't like to use,
anymore, I don't blame her for that.

The other, of him, teenage legs
crossed in relaxation,
looking loved,
and cherished...

forever gone.

I've tried to avoid such,
and asked her to remove those pictures,
from her wall,
as I cried tonight,
putting her to bed,
but, no, she won't,
cannot,
she said...

Is it always like that with youth?
Does age resound louder with loss?
Why do I feel so stricken, still,
for an animal? A Cat?

(a "personality" is)m>(.~
.*+^#|(dead)"`*^.><
(forever.)

He was A Cat,
my friend, and a clown,
my companion, my rebellion...
my freedom.

I am deadened,
there,
where
it counts...can I do it again?
Can I open myself
to such pain, again?

...yes, I have to,
or I am moot.

It's been almost 2 months now since my Mother's Day kitten disappeared...such a small anguish in the pain of the world, but succinctly..mine. I hate it.

I love animals too! Once when I was stationed in Georgia, my cat got out and I refused to go to sleep until my hubby and I found her. Our cat and dog are our babies; we're going to be a wreck when our babies leave us. May St. Francis, the patron saint of animals, always watch out for you and your pets.

I am sorry for your loss. My daughter had hamsters that she would train to wear football hemets and pose for pictures. It was always so hard to explain their demise to her, we just said they went on to the
Super Bowl of life.

Erin, a heart felt write. We have a cat here "Mimi". Trish has had her for 14 years. She is still a kitten and she actually talks to us. She deires physical contact and is more human than many homo sapiens. But alas she has a kidney malfunction and is kept alive on a special diet of love. My condolences, nice write. David.

Don't feel guilty for mourning a pet, sometimes they give us more than anything else...we must learn that we are made up of senses that feel for all sorts of things some more than others, I cried over losing my bonsai plant the other day;-)I had 2 birds I loved like crazy and didn't think I'd ever get over missing them, besides all the other pets I've had over the years. So go ahead and feel as bad as you want, you owe no explanation for it...you have love in your heart, that's a good thing!...;-)

Erin ... thoughts are interwoven ... Death is riding high tonight ... The below is what I wrote and then I saw your comment on Marilyn and just had to follow you to your site. And again death is here. Death is everywhere tonight.......................
"Reviewed by Bill Murray (author) 1/16/2003

Marilyn...it is so funny how things work ...
Tinka wrote a poem about suicide and this is what came out. I didn't even know it was there inside of me:
"Yes we do Tinka! Many nights in my cell I wanted to end it ... Many times in fits of depression ... I wanted to end it. Many lonely nights ... I wanted to end it ... many drunken stupors ... I wanted to end it
and now on the end of my life ... I still want to end it; the suffering and pain that I feel in my psyche. My soul cries out to end it. But I will stay for awhile. Only because of my songs. I will stay and try for one last time to achieve something with my wrecked life. And if that fails. I WILL END IT." ....................................
But I felt a sadness here and this is the next thing I read; almost like I was drawn to you; so it is here again. Sorry Bill
........... again sorry ... the automatic writing has me in its grasp ... revealing tings I never knew. Forgive me for this insanity.

:( I am wondering if I will ever feel closure with my baby boy's death/disppearance...I feel like a wuss to be so affected by this. Each little death is a piece of myself, dying, how will I handle a loved human death? Will I be able to "be"? The anguish of thus and that, cripples me tonight...I am not, when I lose what is me...
