In honor of Kathy Meyers, my best friend, who sent me a recipe flavored like this!


Grudgingly, yet
lovingly, I actually
prepare a "meal", from scratch.
Gravy with floating chunks
of flour-browned meat, flavored
with worcestershire, sherry and,

(oh wait, drinking sherry,
good idea, where's my glass...)

bouillon of beef, a dash of
kitchen bouquet,

(a dash
of sherry, in the pot and in
the larger glass...)

and a slather-spill
of 'tater water to thicken,

(I always thought sherry was
thicker...)

Frothy boiling of potatoes
to be mushed,
with butter and milk,

(haha, and a bit of sherry
to give me energy to smash...)

um, I mean mashed,
so this is almost done
and I go to find
a can of green beans,
because it fits the meal,

("do they make sherry from beans?",
I giggle...to myself
and the kitten, who watches
with predatory, wise-ish eyes,
oh, right, haha, wise, schmise...)

nearly falling over
as I have to bend to look,

(whoa, drinking sherry
from this angle
is way too challenging, and,
gee, those positions, in that
book...)

for the damn ole green beans,
rummaging, looking, moving and,

(whoops, damn can of peas, falling
on my foot, why, I oughta...)

by god, there are no beans!

(shove you back in there, deep,...?,
aawww, darn, the bottle's empty...
ha, I'll try this sherry cooking
again sometime!)

Oh well, I guess it's peas!
