Coffee's Steam

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Saturday, May 10, 2003

Coffee’s gentle steam rises
to greet the slumping collapse
of night’s relaxing stance,
as she awaits this new day’s
dawning possibilities,
or torturous length.

Life yet stays its weighty light,
as ethereal breezes swirl
into her incorporeal gaze,
and she becomes…

…the lilting freshness of
glad mockingbirds
crazily paced multi-song…

…the awakening hues of
shapely floral diversity
adorning their morning masks…

…the low-toned twang of
grassy green scents
released into wisps of aroma…

…the shafting glimmers of
fiery cosmic energy
arrowing and diverging…

…the quiver-pulse of
Time’s passing indifference
as it thrums and vibrates…

…the embodiment of
particles eternal streaming,
standing upon a destiny…

...and she unbecomes,
back to corporeal haze,
as morning breezes whirl,
bringing light’s continuing Life.

Torturous length or
dawning possibilities...
she has become the day,
assuming her earthy form,
to greet the essence of being
in coffee’s collapsing steam.
