A Suicide

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Saturday, May 31, 2003

She presses against the pain of her memories,
and flays any happiness she finds,
in her need to obliterate her grieving
of human abandonment.

Light fails, dark beckons, as she proceeds to cut
and bleed, unseen by caring eyes,
she excises and embalms
in human abandonment.

Dawn arrives, rivulet’s of extraneous thoughts
leak through her lax fingers,
as she shadows, and dies,
from human abandonment.

Very strong write, Erin, and unafraid. Sad truths dwell in strange hiding places, popping up unbidden in our work... Bravo!

Erin,
I agree with Eileen. You have spoken for many with this. It is powerfully expressed, and the emotions very vivid! Excellent work!

Despair not, Erin, for anyone who can capture human emotion as sensitively as this will never be abandoned by humanity.

Skewed vision of the world. Sad when it happens and the thought that they will come back with less advantages because this life is squandered is scary. Thoughtful work, Erin.

Yes, it is a strange one. It must be horrific for one to come to this point in her/his life. I've been down but never to this point. Sometimes I wonder if it is not the suicide's inept view of life that makes her/him believe that death is the only thing viable.
