Without Innocence

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Tuesday, June 3, 2003

She shadows her self-esteem,
it’s normal, not much there, you see,
genetics and environment make
strange mixtures,
but we all know that,
we know too much, anymore.
Back in innocence, there were
still mistakes to be made, dreams
to imagine, moons to travel to,
sights to hang a life upon,
no more, it seems. She
contradicts her unfounded needs,
revels in her selfish esteem,
at times, perhaps, more than what’s normal,
she deems her thinking important,
but, to what end? How does it matter,
really, when dust turns to earth.
And paper turns to dust.
To what end? Shortness of flesh
precludes knowledge of eternity.
Passion dwindles, or dies, painfully,
as mortality knowingly screams,
because, in the end,
what does it matter?
Shadows dance to twisted extremes,
without innocence,
as she searches for the means
to validate her Life’s routines…
but, to what end,
and how does it matter?

Erin, my lovely.. It matters because as long as you are breathing, you have choices.. and as long as you have choices, you can make changes. I read this imagining the world without you in it.. my god, what a huge hole there would be. You need to burst! You already KNOW how to write! Amazing stuff, you. katy.

Excellent write ... great reflections! In the end, even that which now seems to be insignificant matters in the most profound way.

Erin.. This is brilliant.. Filled with questions of pains that plague our minds and our spirits ..it seems. WOW.. Just cuts deep into the heart.

Erin, very thought provoking write. To each a little rain may fall but the depth of the ocean does make a difference.

So very good....sometimes life seems mundane and without a point or without beauty, but you simply have to see a sunrise or hear the morning songs of the birds to know that things are not all for naught. ~Kerry

Sobering poem. I like this phrase:
as she searches for the means
to validate her Life’s routines…
Well done, as usual, Erin!

soul searching....gut wrenching write Erin!!
most indeed...Shadows dance to twisted extremes,
without innocence,
as she searches for the means
to validate her Life’s routines…
but, to what end,
and how does it matter?
