Irrational Fear

Sheltered,
skeltered,
safely tucked away,
in Copper’s open-pit heart,
mine-owned decrepit town,
she changes, it’s crazy,
the world is much too rough.
Maintained,
mountained,
fenced and lonely days,
tinily distant, so many miles,
desert-ed lands, it’s crazy,
the world is much too tough.
Delusion,
seclusion,
violence outside holds sway,
kids are growing, copper paying,
she’s a hermit, she's crazy,
to her, her world’s enough.
*Companion Piece*
Dripping life in patterns of pain
upon her children’s upturned faces,
the woman gathers her tattered dreams,
and buries her being.
