Mark Mark In The Park

A young man on his way to see his date
thought he would take a shortcut or be late;
he looked and found the entrance in the dark
that led into the cemetery park.
Onto the path he made his hurried way,
when, musing on words he would have to say,
his ears perked up and he began to hark
to the confusing sound of soft “mark mark.”
Peering ‘round to see who made the query
he began to feel a little worry.
Fearing that this was no one’s silly lark
as once again but louder now came “mark mark”,
He decided to get cracking on his pace
which soon turned into a feverish race,
the sounds of rushing came with next ”mark mark”
and he must find the way out of the park!
With gasping breath and loud pounding of heart,
he sees the exit gate and so departs
as behind him a last horrible “mark mark”
resounds out of the terrors of the dark.
Shuddering with relief, he turns to see
what monstrous looking creature made him flee
and there with panting jaws within the park
appears a hare-lipped dog who cannot bark.
