Departure

Shadowed shrugging
of matriarchal mountains
send flumes of graying rain
towards the southbound travelers.
She reflects
on Time's cumbrous swiftness
as Denver flies by,
weaving a faded farewell
to home-tugged hearts.

Full Circle

Desert, deserted.
Grasslands, pastured.
Rich earth, corn-proud.
Rivers, spring-fed.
Forests, cool-greened.
Lakes, fish-bred.
Flatland, view-dead.
Mountains, reared.
Mesas, sheared.
Desert, reentered.

Dust...

Dust devils
spinning madly
reach skyward
rotating grit
earthward
creating
a scourge
of dusty
beauty.

Glimpses

A man comes out of a New Mexico Subway, brushing crumbs
off his shirt.
A young couple kiss before entering their vehicle
with Texas plates.
The woman talks to herself as she locks her car door,
beads of sweat slide down her temples.
There's a delivery person running his load
down the truck ramp.
Everyone is wearing sunglasses,
as the heat goes from 99º
to 104º
in seven minutes...
amost home.

Circle, Squared

Seventeen days,
travelings ways,
four thousand miles,
pouts ands smiles.
Traveling ways,
credit card pays,
relatives seen,
Mid-west greened.
Traveling ways,
seventeen days,
we're all okay,
ends today!

Traveling always brings out my better poems, I think! This is great as were
the others and I hope you enjoyed my
home state. ;)
