I went to the mailbox today
to see what I would find.
I opened the door, took a peek inside
and there a bundle reclined.
I lifted it out, five envelopes bound,
my 12 yr. old daughter’s name on top.
I hefted it and instantly flashed
to the news from last years school.
She’d had a poem selected, and so was in
the “Anthology of Poetry of Young Americans”
and I had purchased five (of course), for gifts you know,
then with summers fun forgot I had.
Meanwhile…
My poetry site had planned a book,
we worked a few months to set it up.
Due out in July, I was gone for the debut,
got home from vacation, school starting caught me up.
I didn’t order my book,
haven’t seen my name in print,
and as I sit and read my daughters
“Whisper in the Wind”
all I can say is…
I’m so proud of her!
With a wry smile on my lips.

My daughter's poem...
Whisper in the Wind
In the shadow of the night,
I hear the whisper of the wind,
So soft, so gentle like a mother
Cradling her baby in the night,
As I sit and listen in the light of the moon,
When I sit and stare while the gentle winds talks to me,
I start to sway as the wind cradles me to sleep,
And as I start to dream I can still hear the
Whisper in the wind.
Her poem is absolutely lovely and did deserve to be published!
