TinkleJingleChime

*awaken…*

Cats fed, coffee made, blinds are opened,
shines with sunrays, kids are up
and breakfast-fed, checking backpacks,
brushing hair, need to dress
and wash my face…

*tinklejinglechime*

(Three charms on a necklace,
tinklejinglechime,
crystal, bell and sun,
hanging by silver’s grace,
brings quiet sounds of connection
into my frenetic mind
and sends memories…)

Check the coupons cut and piled
groan at dishes, smile at kitten,
glance at laundry, groceries listed,
talk to self, water plants,
pick my mug up, set it down,
then turn around…

*tinklejinglechime*

(Flash of best friend’s smiling face
cached in crystal set with silver lace
gifting me with long-worn heart
and linking our souls
through lives of years
to the present…)

Ringing phone, forgotten book,
grab offender, knock off mug,
groan again, I’m such a klutz,
kitten mewing, trip over dog, god…,
race to school, head for store, reach
for purse flipped onto floor…

*tinklejinglechime*

(Chirping tone of sister miles away
fills my sight with childhood,
transforming into bell’s small silver shape,
affirming existence's
miracle of memoried past…)

Store is crowded, lose my list,
try to find summer sausage sticks,
wonder if coffee pot is on, have to pee,
by-pass eggs and turn around,
turn around…

*tinklejinglechime*

(Smiling outline on round glass ball
sends me reminders, gentle knowledge,
sun-formed silver, and the epitome of all,
It is I, and she, and we
splashing the void with awareness,
adding color to the future…)

Peal of phone, it's school picture day,
grab the checkbook; I’m on my way,
bump my head on darn screen door…

*tinklejinglechime*

Look at it this way: At least you didn't stub your pinkie toe. Now that REALLY smarts!

Seriously, I really like this poem. It puts a rhythym to a day that might otherwise seem like a bunch of disjointed circumstances. Well done as only you can.

Whoa.. Erin, your use of parentheses to combine the routine with the memories/loftier thoughts is brilliant! but 'talk to self' stuck out and grabbed me.. then I was ready for the 2nd read.. you and me both! My, how you can bring the seemingly 'everyday' into the realm of true art.. yep.. you're somethin'. love, katy xox.

Erin, what wonderful memories you brought back, although I must admit I love being a grandmother and just hearing about it instead. Excellent write.

The imagery here is superb! How well you depict your ritual, so similar for most of us, only you say it better.;-)Your gift shines in this one, Erin!

nicely crafted. Like how you use the "tinglejinglechime" as almost a mysterious thing that lapses you into memories, away from the present. Well done and fun to read. J.

Terrific, Erin! Cell phones can be great utilities or the torments of hell. I enjoyed the story of your busy day. Sounds like you need that cup of brew.
Best regards,
