John Ritter Was My Hero

I was born in 1959,
Generation Naught, left behind,
watching the 60’s through childhood eyes,
part of the last observers of lost innocence,
before technology “expanded”
our world’s tinyness.
John Ritter, as Jack Tripper, epitomized
the searching awareness of our times. He was
witty, likeable, sensitive and self-effacing,
altruistic in spirit, a pusher of boundaries
of the worlds making.
He was fun loving, compassionate, frustrated
and never smug. His actions demonstrated
how to balance life with laughter and humor,
he brandished his slapstick with finesse and grace,
buffooning his deep regard for our human race.
I hoped I could be all those things,
and soar. John was Jack, Jack was John,
he gave his spirit as his humble gift,
from this world his gallant soul has gone,
John Ritter is my Hero, and sorely missed.
