Cried at Death's Heartbeat

I cannot help but wonder where we go
when death strokes our fevered brows.
Why must I agonize over death as well as life?
I screamed, “I will die!” upon my birth,
saw shadows when the sun was high,
peered into darkness past my worth,
and always cried.
Cried out in fear I’d disappear,
wept into nights, cried over days,
not understanding why I wasn't happier,
but I tried.
I feel the world cannot be healed
unless the depth of loss is dealt its honor,
observed, affirmed, and wept over;
I have always cried.
I cannot see where we will go
when life deserts our fevered brows.
I agonize over the deaths of ants. Why must I?

Because you are you, Erin. Admire your honesty very much.
We all have one form of depression Erin.
Another tour de force! This poem hits you (me, anyone?) where it counts. Original, to say the very least.
Hi, Erin!
Don't forget that if you want to have a sonnet or two published in the Winter 2004 issue of SP (subjects Xmas, Peace or Winter) please submit to me by no later than November 20th., as I am publishing SP on December 1.
Thanks,
Riccardo

It's "THROUGH the valley of the sahdow of death", not "AROUND" it. Yep, I do indeed agree...Gotta grieve when ya gotta. But embracing death doesn't mean foregoing life. LIVE it!

This was quite touching and I still offer my condolances for your families loss...she has moved on to that higher plain, be it heaven, or wherever your respective religious beliefs take her...Peace, ED & Rufuz
