Misplaced

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Thursday, November 20, 2003

Savage, at times, the need for placement,
in life and mind, possessions
and obsessions.

Placing trust in life contrives
to imbue chance with godhood.
Happenstance can’t be explained
to a starving child; for its future
explodes the moment it passes,
creating a spiral of futility
dimming back to infinity,
back to chance.

Placing trust in mind contrives
to ordain godhood with strictures.
Graceful arcs and curves meant to
release become rigid; straightens
into inflexibility, tense with pressures
of pretense, constricting,
crumbling back to eternity,
back to nothing.

Placing trust in the material contrives
to incite possessive godhood.
Measurement between real and false
sags arbitrarily; touching a thing
outweighs spirituality, earthiness
becomes huge, a cry for help small,
echoing the shadows of voice’s wails,
back to beginnings.

Placing trust in obsessions contrives
to embe d godhood into self.
Skewed by intent to glorify the soul,
superiority descends; compresses
distresses of conscience defiled,
freedom of thought, whimpering,
afraid to be darkly holed,
back to endings.

Savage, at times, the need for displacement,
in mind and life, balance is two-fold
to progression.

Hi Erin Moen:thanks for the reply. I wasnt really all that affected or upset st your writing-I reviewed because it had meaning to me with respect to the learning of respect for others and their privacy and with respect to the value s of man created standards and norms-that the truths of mother nature always exceed anything regarless of spoken/printed word or the numbers involveed("Masses are asses")
Your also spoke of my intellectual approach to things vs a more simple perception of your own. In comparing-I always strugglred with problems concerning my privacy/spaces/room with even casual brief encounters-and started from the bottom up solving this problem with mental application. As a young person I was always in a gog-didnt understand the news(watergate era-liked most to sleep and eat. I always was compressed/oppressed in this struggle-bent very out of shape from the way I was born. This repression/compression today has changed -amplified to he point where I can deduce that my past struggles had little meaning with respect to it. You can never single out a single person in any society that way or croos those kind s of lines(we are all the same in some respect and everyone is tresspased upon. From the corner I am in I can count on no one-no one or authority to turn to even in legal/court matter. I wouldnt wanted to have woken of cold to this situation but it grew over a long period of time. I have become more and more invisible to others over time-all I can assumeof the problem is that someone unjustly has found a way to amnipulate people with words and print and that htis person be the opposite-not tresspassed on-not invisible-with lot of say in matters etc.-probably very incompetant.(a country of intentionally crossed wires.
Today i write panhandle(the residents here are of mor ethan average attractiveness and fitness and generously endow me with food, cigarettes, sodapop bus fare prayer, aand some spending change. I travel daily runtinely to the los angelos suburbs where I do whatever I do all day and return home at night, in a life that is similiar to a regimented work routine.(I call my begging for change business "begin business")-the take is very small and I am always trying to find some funds somewhere(mostly to physically escape te the "sardine can" country or to travel(especially back to where I was born)
All I can say is 1) the means and importance of all this is( a childs like lieing and schemeing) petty enough to go back to sleep.

Erin, this poem left in deep contemplation. I feel I've landed between two extremes each pulling equally hard in opposite directions. Excellent write.
