Dreamers Are Not Disciples

by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen — Read all 1,670 poems by Erin Elizabeth Kelly-Moen

Friday, January 16, 2004

Study, learn, Muses burn,
accountability of degrees turned
turns into a strictured
structure of adherent sorts.
Plumb and discern, aged and forlorn,
excess knowledge at times retorts
proclaimed program. Upstart, impart,
examine the heart of syllables, riddles,
verbs that refine, define and dine on
nouns of pro or con or kind.
Period at end, then start again
to wear down, reach back, advise,
disguise the fragmented
mind of conceptual time.

Freely besoughted words of dreaming,
disregard for form, formatic frantic
frenzy of absolute energy, fearful
of becoming nothing but ache in meter,
subscribes to sound of lettered life
and rhythms with fleeting adverbial use
of arrangement of space.
Unabsolutes heard, a bird becomes
a swan, a wand, an open wound
traveling interiors of worlded loom
with fathomed flight of fantasy eyes
to, essentially, establish
a foot on the bloom
of poetry.

Erin,
There is so much I like about this,
so many ways and meaning that
can be read into it.
This stanza:
"Unabsolutes heard, a bird becomes
a swan, a wand, an open wound
traveling interiors of worlded loom
with fathomed flight of fantasy eyes
to, essentially, establish
a foot on the bloom
of poetry."
Its all about those "Unabsolutes"
isn't it? Its what keeps us going!

Hugs,
Maria

Ahhhh, Erin.. Thank god dreams are seldom, if ever grammatically correct. Let the written word do all the work, take all the glory. My dreams are not parenthetical... I am NOT an afterthought. PERIOD! (grin) This is a doozy! love, katy xox.

Now this is poetry, Erin. Straight from the gut, enjoyable, pleasurable poetry. We're fortunate to have AD as a vehicle. We can jump in and motor away with only a modicum of attention to traditional form and ettiquette if that is our wont, knowing full well that our verse can crash on the shores of incommunicado, just as real automobiles do. We still can enjoy whatever destination we want with our poetry.
Best regards,
Leland
