A Selfish Flight
My climb was called a selfish flight,
A step towards wrong, and far from right,
But every guilt they tried to throw,
Was screaming at me: RUN — JUST GO.
Cause pity’s a rope I refuse to hold,
It burns the hands, it chills my soul,
I’ll keep on climbing and widen my view,
And leave their storms to the ones who brew.
The air is thin, and the path is steep,
But I made promise, that I must keep,
To the self I’d lost in shadowed years,
Found in wounds by facing fears.
I no longer see through the eyes that I knew,
Their shapes have changed, their colors too,
And as I grow, the view may bend,
For beliefs will wander, but truths don’t end.
I’ve learned the sky won’t grant you wings,
You build them yourself, from the broken strings,
Each note you play, is a hard-won tone,
That lifts you higher, than what was known.
