sitting in my rocking chair a jug of shine
a ratty old guitar behind a moonpie sign
my mangy ugly hounddog chasing porcupines
and I'm feeling so very fine
the sun is going down like it always do
the crickets and the whippoorwills are singing too
and me I'm crooning loving songs for you know who
as if you didn't knew
evening on the porch
it's closing time
I've had enough
of sweet Adeline
so now
I'm gonna ease my mind
and leave
the darn world behind
evening on the porch
picking with my friends
we'll pass around
and do it once again
and when we're through
and night has settled down
we gonna love
man
kind
tomorrow is another day
it never ends
I gotta open up the store
and start to work again
but I know that even if
the sun does scorch
we sing the evening
on the porch
there's a million songs that we can sing
and there's no need to want for a single thing
and if you bring a bell then make it ring
because tonight we are the kings
and if you're feeling sad and maybe blue
then raise your voice and be renewed
because you know there's one thing true
that all your friends are there for you
an evening on the porch
you'll be reborn
evening on the porch
if your heart is torn
evening on the porch
nevermind the storm
if what it takes
we'll sing till the morn
