A longer work for a Tuesday. The soul and the salmom have a simular task at the end...

Struggling with strength near spent
on the up stream journey the salmon
pushes up one more riffle into
the pool above. Past the carcasses
of those whose struggles have ended
she struggles late in the pilgrimage to
keep faith with those to come and
those before who will or have
sought the stream to reproduce and die.
Purpose and meaning focused in the
struggle to keep faith carrying on
up the rapids until, spawned out or
spent, she drifts away …

Very much hawork in progress. Please comment

luv the analogy and metaphor in this poem ...in a sense, this suggests the stages of life itself ...

It always saddens me to see the dead and dying salmon. An effective analogy, John. Love and peace,

"until spawned out or spent, she drifts away" The salmon as the soul, ever struggling to rise up, keeping the faith in 'poetic justice,' carrying on so that the world itself can carry on, intent on her part in creating a new generation that will take her place... and all for what? Faith.

Well done.

I don't see a thing wrong with it, John; metaphorically perfect, you capture a struggle against the elements...reminds me of Alaska. :) Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
