John the baptist, the preparer, is the icon for run up to Christmas
A little more overtly "religious" than my usual
from the desert
the wild man
comes
clothed in camel’s hair
girded with leather
eating locust and wild honey
a man fully in the grasp of the living god.
sleeping among the rocks
unsheltered from dew and sun
he listens to the wind
the prophet spirit
from the desert
his harsh, honeyed voice cries
“the lord is coming
repent and prepare”
John, I think this is the first I have read any of your works. I really like it.
When you call John the Baptizer "a man fully in the grasp of the living God" it makes me yearn to be fully God's, too.
When you speak of his harsh, honeyed voice, I can almost see this rough character, calling out in a voice that beckons with a supernatural "honey." It's a voice I have responded to, and have never regretted answering that call.
One request, though -- Consider going back and capitalizing God and Lord. I'd sure feel better if you did that.
