above the trees
just over the tops
the wild geese fly
singing their raucous
flight song..
hearing them
i am flung out of time
to the mud flats
to hear the call of the first goose
as without antecedent
it takes its form from equal parts
of earth, air and, water.
standing among the willows
i watch the chevronels
of his decedents
dividing the field of the sky,
bearing the song of their flight
down to the earth’s last goose.
watching as she sings
the song of her freedom
through the firestorm
of the sun’s destruction
and beyond
