maybe i am wrong,
maybe we are not but
biochemical monads,
separate entities who
prey on each other.
maybe love is just
a chemical reaction,
sex just a function
of water pressure.
it is a sad picture of
a pointless existence,
but maybe that’s
just the way it is.

maybe i am wrong –
but i believe that we
are more than the sum
of our biochemicals,
greater than the product
of our conditioners.
i believe that love is–
that love exists beyond
the gonads of lovers.
i believe that we are
all interconnected--
part of a greater whole.
maybe that’s not the way it is–
but that’s the way i shall live
