I’m headed off into the bush for
the weekend. The “bush” is what
Canadians call it – others call it
the outback, the woods, the desert.
It is the land “beyond the fields that
we know”, the “perilous realm”...
Well, my prose outruns the reality...
I’m going on a weekend away with
some men of the parish–to a resort
in the Kawartha’s... real roughing it–
not... I’ll be back, Monday, with
at least a few haiku...

APPROACHING THE BUSH
Do not come here with axe and chainsaw
expecting to “find yourself”. You will not.
Do not come here confident in your knowledge--
you could learn much here: you will not.
Do not come here cocooned in your electronic
distractions. You came to hear: you will not...
Come in the nakedness of your spirit, and
enter the bush. Seek the bush on its terms,
and for itself. Hear the voice of the wind;
attend the deliberations of the trees:
Open yourself to the possibilities, the
certainties, and the absurdities of creation.
In the strangeness of the wild seek, find, the
terrors, the wisdom, the courage, of your heart.
We call it the bush...the scrub....or the outback in Oz....I call it bloody paradise ....Loved your poem, I could relate..have fun..or at least have fun trying...Thanks, Dani
