During my mother's last illness i spent two weeks in my home town, Niagara Falls, N.Y. realizing the empty shell it has become. It was once full of industry and jobs, it is now just depressed and depressing.
The title refers to an old marketing slogan...
Once vital city
beside the great falls; today
gutted, gangrenous, Dead.
Blacked-out City
First lit by electrons power
sacrificed to developers greed.
Brawling industrial town now
shackled to the tourist's whim.
No enemy has done this,
just forty years of leadership
lost in the mist of the Bridal Veil...
Haunting and universal - so many small towns have slipped into the mists over the past decade. I'm admiring of the way you work so many details into so few words. Terri

Sometimes its best not to return to old huants with great memories. Very descriptive and well written.
