New Addition To My Shingle
{For Eileen}
She lay there on her bed and cry
She looked so pale… so hurt
Full of bitterness…the lines near her mouth
Dark rings around her eyes
Once or twice she tried to defend herself
But each time she looked you in the face
All she felt was shock
And so ashamed for a moment
Denied the truth for awhile
Quietly…but full of bitterness inside
Knowing
To beg for mercy or forgiveness
Or to be furious for what happened…too late
She pulls the pillow over her head
Press it hard against her ear
Anything to keep the hurt on her face out of sight
Time passed incredibly slow
Instinctively she turned around
Switched off the light
A moment of hesitation…
Before her body started to shiver
She buried her face in the pillow
So no one could hear her prayer
Pretending
To be fast asleep
