Before my last sigh
I held hands
With those there
Near my side
To say their Final Farewlls
I mustered a smile
As if pain, was not there
Uttering in a low tone
"I'll see you all, in your dreams"
As my last breath escaped.
T'was A Noble scene
Like a master's footage
From a silver screen
I felt myself floating
Like a balloon
Above the bed
That held the empty shell
That once encased my soul.
Most held back their tears
Upon my request
The young ones kissed me
With little eyes drownimng in tears
Some past by my side
For the last time
Placing a hand on mine
Or upon my shoulder
To express their goodbyes.
I was unable to hear
Just saw their lips moving
With sorrowful looks
Relatives, wondering what to do?
As they left, one by one.
A woman in white
Placed a cold white sheet
Over my face
Oh! By the way
When I expired, I left behind
A smile, upon my face.
I SEE THIS WAS WRITTEN 17 YEARS AGO. SEEMS...THE OLD GUY UPSTAIRS, WHO IS SO TOTALLY IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING, HAS KEPT YOU HERE. I GUESS YOU STILL HAVE WORK TO DO(SMILE). ENJOYED THIS SHARING THAT'S COMING FROM A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW ALTOGETHER. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
When my time comes I can only hope I will "expire" as gently and happily as your poem suggested. I hope I will go gently into the darkness because of my belief that there is light on the other side.

What else could you do but smile, cause you knew what and where you were going and the rest left behind, only knew you were dying, not starting anew...I like this one, Bill, it is a keeper I think...Ed
