A Shadow Behind A Tree

I see a shadow of a figure
As If it was hiding
Behind a tree
Just two hundred feet away
From Me.

I love sitting at my patio
It over looks a swamp
That resides
Behind my humble house.

Here I rather be
Than at a Broadway play
Or at an action packed
Movie House.

Here I produce my own
Here I direct my own scenes
As I relax behind my home.

Here is where my imagination
Runs amuck
I see what I wish to see.

What I created
Like
That shadow behind that tree
Is a Bigfoot
That's what I want him to be
As he stands there
Behind that tree
Just staring at me.

Like a surveyor
I chris cros lines
marking that tree
So I may have the pleasure.

To narrate the scene
To my grandchildren
When at my home
They come to visit me.

I just love that look
On their lovely faces
The awe of it all
As they squint and look hard.

Trying their best
To see
The imagination grandpa
Produced
Wanting them too
To see.

The vegetation behind that tree
that causes a shadow
Within my mind
As It hides from me
Behind that tree.

All you need is a campfire to tell your stories around, to the eager ears of grandchildren, I have fond memories on my grandfather doing that...wonderful images to this imaginative write William

The thought of sharing imagination with grandchildren, and imagining the awe on their faces, is very evocative. Picture-perfect. A little editing/relook at the poem would make it really something for the grandchildren to treasure.

This is so very true. My mother always said there was a visitor in the back bdroom. His name was Charlie and he really wasn't a visitor but a ghost. When there was an unexplained noise she always blamed it on Charlie. Fact is her dog, "Hoss" wouldn't ever go down the hallway past her bedroom. To this day "Charlie" lives at grandma's house. Your poem is a neat folk tale yet to develope for your grandchildren. I really like the idea of your thing behind the tree.

Your imagination is in full bloom, William - and it sounds like you have the perfect spot to work with. You also sound very much like my grandfather, who always knew how to weave the perfect tale for his grandkids!

Wonderful, William!! I have no swamp out back (at least not unless it has rained a lot!), but I will have to practice imagination like yours when I relax back there. I usually just watch the birds and critters, but your idea sounds like more fun! The imagination is boundless, without limits only of what our minds place on it.

Well done. Peace. Joyce

Captivating and mesmerizing imagery in this one William. Has a magical mood to it for the kids.Great poem! I have a similar thing going on from my porch as I survery the scene all around me from the second floor I see mountains woods, besides the busy streets with restaurants and malls. A lot to see and imagine.
