Dedicated to all heroes within
The Towers on that September Day
Specially the ones that displayed
Their ultimate choice, to jump rather
To burn alive.
~~*~~
Memories Gone In Smoke
~~~~~*~~~~~
Darkness rains from clouds of ash
Fear still awaits me
In my nights
Before I close my eyes
To recite
My everlasting prayers
To The Lord above
To keep me and mine safe
For at least till
The rising of the next
Morning's sun
Safe from the terror
That warped minds
Dispensed upon the innocent
On that September Day
That dwells deep
Within my most dreaded
Memories.
~~*~~
Five years have passed
Yet thoughts of those gigantic
Man made moniliths
I treasure within my most
Valued memories
Were once the pride
Of the greatest skyline
In the world
They still live within us all.
~~*~~
I've tried to move on
In life
As It was before 911
But the pain is too much
For this aging, once servent
Of the greatest City
That lost so many, of it's innocent
I shall hold them dearly
Eternally embracing them
In my prayers.
~~*~~
I am cursed
With images and sounds
Of heroic cries and yells
As They chosed
To jump to their destiny
Hoping while reciting prayers
To be Identified, By others
Who might survive
The closing vortex jaws
Of a hell
They decided, not to stay within
Too well I recall that day.
Such sadness, and I can only try to imagine what clings to the thoughts of you and the others there that day. Wonderful tribute to our heroes of the day.
You are a survivor. This poems means more to me perhaps because I know you live in NYC. Nevertheless, it's most moving, William. Moving indeed. ~~Nordette
Oh William, one of the first images I saw when I came home from work, was those people jumping from the towers rather than being burned alive. my daughter and I just sat there and cried. I will never forget or forgive. This is an outstanding response to the challenge and a powerful and deeply moving tribute to those who died on that terrible day.
This is a very emotional and personal poem, William, and you have met the challenge well, thank you for taking part. I thought, perhaps, if we worked together as a group while writing our 9-11 poems we might find a little additional healing, kind of like a group therapy session. It seems that I heal a little more each time I write of that day and even moreso when I can speak to others who have mutually shared my sorrows. Thank you again for this beautiful "from the heart" offering.
This is the most-gripping tribute I have read. God have mercy...
