The night was cold
My room comfortably warm
I woke to answer nature's call
I can hear the humming sound
Of the central heating.
~*~
A corner night light
Reflects shadows
Images in my head
I read them to be
a little boy sitting
at a school seat
Elbows on the desk
Face buried in his hands
Sobbing silently.
~*~
A little girl kneeling
Beside him
Registers in my mind
As his sister, an arm
Around his shoulder
comforting words
She whispers in his ears
Asking him why
He, in the darkness cry?
~*~
Dawn steals the darkness
Away from the night
Filtering gray twilight
Through partially
Drawn blinds
No longer I read shadows
Lurking in the night.
~*~

Ooooh...some powerful visions within this imaginative poem, William. As with you, I too have those strange moments of half-asleep/half-awakening where shadows and dreams take on such reality! Extremely well written!

Was it a dream lived through half awake eyes, shadows from the past or memories from past dreams? Any which way William I found this a thought provoking write and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ty. Love and peace to you for a happy new year. Panda :)

Good stream of thought process. Funny how a single shadow can provoke a complete scenarion in our minds. Good work.

Our dreams and our shadows combined are disturbing
at times, especially when we're half asleep.

Great write my friend, I haven't awoke at night to see such shadows or what some may call memories, but I have been deep in thought before, usually outside when I could swear that I hear my mamaw calling my name, once I thought I saw her standing in the drive or the lane as we call it here in Kentucky....I think I miss her sometimes so much that my mind plays tricks on me...nevertheless this was a thought provoking write, and very well written William, I enjoyed it much.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

Very interesting, William!!!!! Was this a vision that came to you while you were in the darkness? Or was this caused by something that you remembered from the past?

Nonetheless, it is a moment that two innocent children share their worlds, attending to the problems that they once had. Perhaps this was a moment of closeness between a brother and his sister; perhaps this was a moment to treasure in your memories.

Lovely write!!!!!

Happy New Year!!!!!

William, I found this poem a bit unsettling. Possibly because I spend way too much time alone in the dark unable to sleep, but more likely because I was wondering what prompted such thoughts. This is a good poem for pondering, funny how ones mind works when the world around us is quiet. Nicely written.

In the silence that stills, before the dawn, many voices can be heard speaking out to us if we take the time to listen. It seems that as the world is sleeping, our senses become more acute and we are able to see and hear so much more than we can once the roar of the day begins. Perhaps it is just the remnants of our dreams, or perhaps it is a sense that we don't acknowledge once the sun is up and the daylight tosses us into our daily activities. Excellent poem, William. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Take care,
Sherry

Very interesting poem William, kind of reminded me of my wife and I. Stress got me a time or two, she would come over and ask, "why are you crying, what problems do you have?" U know us guys aren't suppose to shed a tear. Anyway my wife has been through every azz busting struggle I've had for the last 20 or so years. My crazy family, mom losing her home over my spoiled crack using nephews and being put in an assistant care center, her crazy azz family who hates me because I'm not as dirty as they are, and these foolish azz neighbors who threaten to shoot me when I simply ask them to control their kids and their trash. Then there's work, which is a constant drainer. Not to mention this older age, high blood pressure and being put in the high risk category by my doctor for heart attack. Anyway that little boy crying in the shadows, I'd tell him to get his helmet on cause he's going to need it. So getting back to my wifes question, she should have known the answer. Happy New year William
