I’ve been wounded
Not by arrows
Not an axe nor a mason
Not A sword nor a dagger
Not by a lance on a joust
But by age and unmerciful time
By The Gods Of Zeus
Who took it upon themselves
To destroy my mind
To impair my thoughts
For I can’t remember my name
I travel with a companion
Claims to be
A long life friend
My squire
The bearer of my arms
Keeper of my lance
Last night we slept
‘Neath a giant oak tree.
The bright morning sunrays
Caress the sleep from my face
Yet I feel not out of place
As I wake and know not
My name
My sword is rusted and dull
My armor un-shined
My steed an old gray nag
My companion,
Still stays by my side
Short, Heavy set
Clothing un-kept
Unlike myself, tall and lanky
Graying hair, mustache, beard
Hatchet face features
Bones that ache day and night
Together they rode away.
Atop a grassy null
Appeared a shadow of a figure
On a mount with cross lances
So he thought.
The aging knight
Challenged the stranger
For he feared
Himself and his companion
In uttered danger
He heard no response,
From atop his mount
He demanded a lance
From his squire.
The nameless squire
Presented him with an old
Eroding, paint fading, lance
Now armed
He demanded satisfaction
Lowered his helmet’s visor
Digging his spurs into
His nag of a steed
Onward he rode
To meet his unanswered
Challenge
Finally remembering his name
As he charged
An idle old Windmill
Don Quixote
Rode in the sunset

Templars, Vikings, Camelot...all of them got a dull sword after so many battles, yet...we love to thing that they aged with grace and not suffering the silence for his challenge.
Well done, very well done.
