The Rocking Chair
***

When I was young
I thought of
My twilight years
Of relaxing on a porch
Rocking myself on a chair.

Now those years
Are here,
I find myself thinking
Of my younger years.

I don’t see myself
Rocking myself to sleep
On any chair
Any where
Any porch.

I do find myself
Trying to rock
To the beat
My grand kids
Are rocking to these years.

As they laugh their little
Butts off,
Grandpa is the only clown
They want to keep around….

good one William, reminds me of this blues song, which goes, I'm going to lay my head on that old railwood iron, then let the 319 train peacefy my mind, I'm going down by the river, going sit in my rocking chair, then rock myself on away from here. Kind of sad but I listen to it all the time, forget than train action though, take care

I too have to smile when I read this delightful poem, we know that we are young at heart...but in the eyes of our grandchildren, who knows what they see...good one, William

Yes William, we are clowns to our grandkids my friend but we are mentors as well. One GREAT write! As your grandkids get older they will appreciate this kind of writing even more.

Your poem is so true. I have nine grandchildren and I'm always on the go to some event or playing games with them. I used to tell myself, I'm going to relax in my old age, it never happened.

My great grand kids who live about 5 miles from me are a handful when they stop over. Never used to fall asleep but catch myself dozing now and then. No rocking chair yet. Good poem William
