She's forever in my thoughts

***

I woke with a thought
In my head
To others it was just
Another never mind
Spent most of the morning
Searching through
The corridors of my mind
Where
Somewhere that thought
Within its travels wedged itself
Deep within a crevasse
Of unwritten thoughts
I should had wrote it down.

Upon my continued travels
Down the line
Saw my dearest mother
Scribing in a pad
Between moments of the life
That surrounded her.

Oh, how I wish to this day
I were able
To read her most valued
Thoughts
But time slipped
Too fast on a life
No one cared.

What songs or sonnets
Could she have written
what words or verses
would she had chosen
To scribe an ode
To someone then???

If only I were able
To read her words
To those soothing melodies
she used to hum
To me
While doing her domestic
Chores
As I played with toys
By her side
I never cried
when She died.

William, I stumbled across your poem, SHE WAS BLACK, liked it and began to read more. I've now read nearly a dozen of your recent works.. My Gosh, they are fantastic. How have I missed you for so long? I’ve only been an active member for about 5 or 6 months, but from what I’ve just seen of your work, you’re in the higher echelon. I’ve become a fan and I’ll be recommending your works to my friends. Thanks for all you do. Dick

Depending on our age or how we have been conditioned, I guess there are many great pains which we have not allowed ourselves to "cry" over, William, and often it is the events that are closest to us which we brace ourselves, either cognitively or subliminally, against. I so feel for you in this. Much of my family pain has only surfaced in the past five years - about 45-50 after it all took place, so I have no idea, really, how I dealt with it all at the time. And the notebook thing, too... I pleaded with my mother not to let her story die within her, yet, what she has left me with is so shocking, in parts, that I haven't been able to handle it - yet! There can be pain in what we know and pain in what we feel we have been in denial of. At the right time, in the right way and in the right place in our lives, we will come to terms with opening up and taking a peek, ready in our emotions to deal with what we find. Bless you for this deeply personal and beautiful write. xx

Oops... sorry, William: I have gone off at a tangent and have overlooked that it is, perhaps, the most BEAUTIFUL memories that you wish you had keep-safed at the time - of the loving and soothing things of motherhood. Our regrets can be caused by overwhelming happinesses, as well as hidden pains. Thank you. xx

Here is a music, William, that plays not only in your head but in mine, the reader, such is the immediacy of your rendering and the realism of the poem; how many of us have felt this form of regret and 'if only'? This poem speaks to me so clearly, so deeply. Thank you.

John

I'm crying now, because this is so heart-felt and skillfully understated ... you have somehow expressed such loving emotions and sadness of loss.

Oftentimes as children we forget that our mothers are individuals too. Always so busy with the seven of us and keeping a house and home together, I never "really" had a chance to know who my mother was. Now, as I look back, I see so much more than I did back then. Heartfelt write William...very touching....

William, this is such a tender poem..I have been in the memory banks of my mind lately also. I have heartfelt memories of my grandmother (Nana). I believe that when we think of our loved ones that have passed this clearly and sensitively, they are reaching out to us for some reason..Hopefully you will find a way to cry to release any unresolved issues that you had with her..

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

I find your verses very moving and meaningful, William. They remind me of my own mother when I was a child. Sadly, she chose to leave this world/life early on her own terms. Love and peace to you,

Regis
