I Woke in a dark kind of mood
and this is what I brewed

Poem Artwork

The Midnight Special

~~~*~~~
I found myself lonely
Though surrounded
Not by love ones
Sitting in the darkness
At a lost station
Waiting for
The Midnight Special
That sinister train
Draped in black and purple
Destination “The Unknown”.
Don’t worry
Some one whispered
In the darkness of my fear
That’s the train of life
None will ever miss
“All Aboard!”
I heard the conductor’s cry
Though I couldn’t see his face
T’was hidden within
A dark hooded robe
Of a druid's high priest
The loud low bass voice
Sent chill
Throughout my spine.
“All Aboard! “
He cried out, one more time
As the train’s engine
Rhymed itself
To the beat
Of muffled drums
Passing me by
Without another conductor’s
Cry
Leaving me behind
To wonder why.
I felt tiny fingers
Caressing my face
Patting my hands
I felt a cool breeze
As a door opened
From behind
A golden glow of light
Rescued me
from the darkness of gloom
Within my room.
Grand children rushing in
Yelling wake up
Grandpa
We’re going to Disney World
And that was that.
SO THE TRAIN PASSED YOU BY, HUH? DON'T CARE HOW 'YOU' MIGHT FEEL ABOUT IT, YOU AIN'T GOING NO WHERE UNTIL THE MAN UPSTAIRS SAYS ITS TIME TO GO...AND THANK GOD FOR GRANDCHILDREN! SO GLAD THEY INSTANTLY MADE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR 'DOWN' RISING. HOW WAS DISNEY LAND?!? GREAT, HUH?! GOOD! NONE OF US ARE WHAT WE USED TO BE BUT WE ARE STILL HERE AND THAT'S THE WAY GOD WANTS IT. I CAN ACCEPT THAT BECAUSE I KNOW GOD KNOWS WHAT'S BEST FOR ME. LOVE AND BLESSINGS, MY FRIEND AND FAITH ABOUNDING TO YOU AND YOURS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
You missed the train but not the joy of your grandchildren interrupting your dream. Precious.
I'll never forget that line: “… And let the midnight special, shine its ever lovin' light on you.” I interpreted that line to mean that death would come in the night and relieve someone from the misery of imprisonment.
I can't think of a better way to be pulled from a nightmare than by the sound of a grandchild's voice...My little grandson has pulled me from some very dark places...nicely done, William...
Yup! There's nothing like grandkids to shake you out of a down mood. Their voices shatter darkness.
Love ya!
Drat! Rescued by the gaiety of children. Still. The dream was real.
