A cold silent night


The night was cold
And clear
The shepherd fell asleep
He did not hear
As a sheep spoke words
There was no one there
To hear
"I heard a Child was born
On this clear cold night."

Did anybody see
The bright star, high above?
Moving in the direction
Where A Child laid
Waiting to be praised
Said the donkey,
To no one there.

The shepherd woke
From a deep sleep
Yawned and stretched
His eyes searching the sky
For a bright star
Mentioned in his dream.

There! he saw it
He gathered his sheep
Mounted his donkey
That showed him the way.

Following the bright star
It led them to a barn
Where a man and a woman
Rested
From a long weary journey.

The man stood alert
The Woman, breast fed
Her Child
Whom the shepherd
Came to praise
As he fell on his knees.

He shyly said
I came to praise Him
He who was born, this night
The poor shepherd
beared no gifts
So on his flute, played
For The Child
A soft melody, to be herd
Throughout
That clear cold Silent Night.
