Falls of yesteryears

On a lovely warm
Monday morn
In late fall
I sit within
My enclosed patio
Enjoying a bowl
Of delicious sweet
Creamy mush
Of grits

Quietly watching a lone
Stork
Gliding down onto
The beautiful wetlands
That's part
Of my back yard vista.

I now but dream
Of the late falls
Of yesteryears
Where a crispy chill morn
Brings frost to the lawns
Roofs, cars and all
That surrounds me.

Walking my retriever
Was a pleasure
In the early morn
Silence.

Where the crunch
Of my boot penetrated
The frozen bronze Leafs
Of fall
Cracking the calmness
In the air.

Preparing
The ground
For that oncoming
Winter snow.

Love the contrast of the warmth and mushy grits with the frozen bronze leaves and cracking air of a different season - as timeless as that alighting stork on the wetlands - lucky man! xx

Nicely done, William..the imagery was very soothing...unlike the ten feet of snow in my back yard...giggle...

What an invigorating pastoral scene you've painted. However, I almost gagged on the idea that grits is delicious! What diabolical thinking led to develop such unnutritious heart of hominy soaked in lye? Certainly has to be an acquired taste.

I still enjoy the crunch of snow under my boots with my dogs,
But this winter has been pretty brutal, and I'm starting to dream of Spring.
