She was thirteen
Beautiful
As a teenage queen
She was promised
An another she never met
As it was customary
In that once upon a time.
He was a handsome
Military Captain
Tall and lean
Medals of bravery adorned
His chest
Like fruit salad.
They met
She was thirteen, he thirty six
Though there was no love
Between them
Prior to the day
At hand.
They stood before an altar
Of God
Staring into the sparkles
In each other’s eyes
with awe
an epiphany of expectation
That they were meant
For each other
Reciting their vows
Followed by “I Do”
Their true love
Was created in heaven
Several children later
Their love stood solid
Like the rock of ages.
Years took a sadden toll
Upon the brave Handsome
Once upon a time Captain
Now a three star General
As he lays in his
Deathbed
She held his hand
Tenderly
Staring at the dimming
Sparkle within his eyes
Where she to him
Always resided.
The reaper awaits
Outside their dwelling
Respecting
The still passionate love
Of a brave General
And his beautiful
Tearful princess.
