All alone down and out
cant even sing
The blues
What am I going to do?
Too old to dance
A few steps
On a corner like
Bojangles
For a cup of coffee.
Too cold, can't extend
A gloveless hand
as I beg for alms
Cause my hands
Are holding the rags
I'm wearing
Against my chilled chest
keeping myself warm.
Brother can you spare
Some loose change
I utter to no one
In particular
As I jingle a tin cup
With some earned
Few cents.
Thank you sir
Thank you lady
God bless you
Oh! ....Merry Christmas"
Your poem makes me want to drop some coins in that tin cup. But if tipped every cup. I will be on the next corner with a cup and my own song. How sad for those who brave the cold with shaking hands just for a a quarter or two, and at Christmas no less.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Thank you for loving, sharing and caring. I been there, begging takes a lot of pride and its demeans you. But thank God for the wonderful people or angels he sends to us to get us back on our feet. I never look back and life since that time has been great! The only time you look down on a person is to lift them up! Peace!!!
A GREAT reminder William that Christmas is a good time to help others less fortunate. This year I bought 50 gifts for homeless kids. There are more homeless in our town this year and less people donating money and gifts. Why? Only God knows...
Have a Merry time as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
It's good to help our fellowman. In our area we have many churches and food kitchens who feed the homeless. We also have a place that gives them shelter and a bed at night as long as they look for jobs during the day. Of course, I always have some spare change for those on the streets. Great reminder of how grateful we should be for everything, no matter how small, that we have.
Yep, we should help out when we can. I usually contribute to the Salvation Army, because the Salvation Army helped me immensely during my two lost decades. I also contribute to The Veterans Administration, although not so much lately because I don't believe the money goes where I want it to go. I'm not much on giving to street beggars. I roamed the streets, again, in those two lost decades, and I never begged once. I always found some kind of work. Besides I know for a fact that many of the street beggars are conning people.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Sad, isn't it? Like your poem.

Said so eloquently!
If only it were Christmas all year round, then maybe people would be kinder to one another!
Peace, love and light
