When did I start,
Getting old,
Overweight,
Fat and slow?

When did I start,
Sucking wind,
After a few steps,
Or walking up a slow hill crest?

When did I start,
getting gray,
Losing my hair,
With a foot, in my grave?

When did I start,
eating so much,
Not caring,
Whether my clothes fits,
Or not?

When did I satrt,
losing intrest, in sex?
Well, not all at one time,
I can still, handle myself.

When did I start,
Crying, when alone at night?
Missing my children,
Thinking, of the good old times,
Even while the sunshine.

William,
I think one can do no more, than to paint the honesty, as it holds their soul that one day in time.
For no greater words do ride higher in beauty and impact in my view, than the ones that are strewn in honesty of heart.
I applaud the authors heart and words this day.
No William, few know the journey of which you do speak my friend, until the very day we arrive!

Old is a state of mind, if you don't state it, you don't mind it! William, I was old when I was seven, and have been getting younger ever since. It's like my weight, I'm working my way back to my original weight, 7 lbs 9 ounces! Seriously, loved the poem, and I think, Sir, that you will be young of heart at 120!

Well I am glad to hear it is fictional. You aren't old until you reach 100. Then you should slow down a bit. [smiles] Well done, William. You write the neatest poetry.

This was sad! ~ But people must allow themselves to grow old gracefully.

Both beautiful and heartfelt!

A fine write, which sometimes applies even to young men when they become jaded, life becomes meaningless. I really don't believe it's the age as much as it is the attitude. We can't let age defeat us;-)
