Within my heart, still
Are remembered
All the true heroes
Of that day
That branded the whole world
When heroic men and women
Entered the opened Jaws
Of a vortex of sure death
With disregard to their own lives
Knowing, exit was impossible
Those and the innocent
Everyday working folks
That died
While about their daily chores
"I Salute"
Let us not forget
Another form, of true heroes
That day
The one's with no escape
That made "The Ultimate Choice"
Not of life , nor of death
One of, how to die
Prayers were said individually
Recited deep within souls in need
Goodbyes said in thoughts
Knowing family will understand
And Bless them upon "the ultimate choice"
As they jumped, they prayed
For a painless death
That day, I cried

That day - I also cried with you, and for weeks held my daughter (age 14 then) as she cried. The images implanted in her memory forever.

A wonderful tribute that truly bought home the feelings of that day. Thank you for sharing. I hope your surgery went well.
