Nature is a genuine passion of mine and fighting for the rights of all of our children and grandchildren to witness the beauty of this land is all of our responsibility. Poems can get the word across sometimes while public forums and turning out to vote is the positive approach. We don't have a vote if we don't have the numbers. Please help protect this beautiful earth.

Poem Artwork

They play today in cool dark tea
The waters of this creek to be
The tilt-a-whirl of their home
The briny ebb that tops with foam
They float away this Sunday morn
Ignore the noise of motors horn
Their big brown eyes and deep dark fur
Which is a HIM and which is HER
Their tiny clicks that split this day
As these sea otters dart and play
Their Frisbee...oysters...sailing free
Playing here...right near the sea
Funny creatures of soft small smiles
Reaching out for miles and miles
Clawed small hands that reach and grab
Pink tinted claws of a fiddler crab
Playing with each tidal ounce
Giggling in the washing bounce
Innocent ones no care for woes
When days like this gives in and flows
Times of amusement for animals
Whose life is given within parameters
For Wetlands are the endangered lands
When money speaks to greedy men
When nature's life is given way
So bank loads give to men who pay
The price of echoes from a time
When otters, marshes and creeks were mine.

They are for us all. Too bad so many forget that. Thanks for reminding and minding...

Your point well made.
For without nature. . . .
Where would we be. . . . .
I agree. . . . .
Totally.
Words that will hopefully envoke action.

A poem as magical as the wonders of nature that it celebrates. Such an odd thing how so much splendor exists all around us and yet humanity so often elects to destroy rather than respect, preserve, or celebrate it.

You caught the delightful bounce, bubble and froth of the otter character here, Susan. They are totally FASCINATING and I can never tear myself away from them whenever I see them - sadly only in captivity now, it has to be said. But their short-attention span which echoes my own, and their bright eyes and busy hands - that are CEASELESS in playing with objects - just delight me. Their energy could fuel the world... I wish it would! :)) You create your own Rings of Bright Water here... and I pray that our grandchildren might get to share them. LOL Kate xx

Your words are so true. We can't just sit back and let our children become the victims of the actions of the greedy among us as we have.
We can't let them ruin what's left of the natural state of our world.
You write about the unfairness of this so hopefully and that is truly a gift. Pierre.

Susan,
Otters have always been a favorite animal of mine too. No longer seen playing out from the pier here in Chesapeake Bay due to human development. Thank you for raising to our awareness again with well written prose..less we forget what is missing.

They are the most precious creatures, although I'm more familiar with the ones that play in our cool and rocky mountain stream of Tennessee. You've captured their spirit beautifully...may they endure the consciouslessness of man.

Dearest Susan, I have always been extremly close to otters. They are stunning and they have the essences of playing like kids..They are so cute...Native Americans call their medicine playfulness...They live close so very to my spirit...

Susan,

My last name (well, maiden name) means "otter" in Russian, so this piece intrigued me. What playful, wonderful creatures they are. And what a playful, wonderful write--you capture the spirit of Otter powerfully in verse! BRAVA!

(((HUGS))), love and prayers for you and Sweet Kate, Karla.

What an utterly endearing animal they are.

This grabbed me! "when life is given within parameters" What a proclamation this is Belle. Almost gestalt in nature.

Everything God has created lives within its own peculiar parameters. Nothing eludes this rule. Even non-biological things have specific parameters that they exist within.

Think about the parameters that cyber-space friendships adhere too. Nothing corporeal, no touch, no visual, no smell, no tipping a glass of wine, no shared laughter, no nothing but shared words on a screen and imagination to give it some semblance of form and life.

I think that I've digressed - sorry!

A beautifully rendered poem that moves upon the senses as if one was there with you.

Maybe that's the key!

You and Ed Kostro are the undoubted guardians of our environment and habitat...

Splendid appeal from the heart, to safeguard God's creatures and the wetlands...

Very cute pic too...
