The cross here is The Nevern Cross, found in Scotland.

Nevern Cross
The circle of the sun could be shown as a simple plain circle, or could be designed to denote its significance more clearly, as in the Nevern Cross where radial extensions on the circle suggest the sun's rays. Poem Artwork

I could have fallen further as I jacknifed and drowned
Preferring to be clueless to all that resounded
I stood grasping images... maps of distant places
Searching all my yesterdays among lines of tired old faces
With no inclination of what tomorrow brings
I lept into this abyss of pain and rusted things
I called upon my anger... this frustrated old soul
To this dying individual with no inner goal
Succumbing to life's cling and grasping at her straws
Knowing I was weaker because of all my scars
Putting all my anger and inner light aside
Preferring Hell's Chariot as a simpler way to ride
Down to despair and darkness... to the hole of nothingness
Down much deeper into the pitch to find the me in us
In a faint light it opened with no second chance for doubt
To literal suggestion I wrote my burning out
I quilled the final answer when my road stopped at strife
Came upon a second chance to redefine my life
I can see the focus now of spirits in their fright
And just because pains have a past when license is uptight
My vision is much clearer to sunny smiles and things
Among a map of all my truths to the spirit's inner ring
Living is more graceful with an extra beat to share
For history repairs itself when wisdom has no fear
Out of life's acid springs the sweet... sugar of all pleasing
When love floats up with all the fears and donates all her reasoning
Just as skies allow the soar of fetile birth and flying
Love abounds and dresses down the negative of dying.

this one really got to me, oh so much and that last line speaks volumes, how I long for this new flying, you've captured what the depths can be as well as what the saving grace is and I am at a loss as to what to say ...
Just intensely inpired and felt and with that hope shining through, you are one most special poet, Susan and again wish I could describe how much felt this was but I can and do say, Thank You!

Powerful expressions, strong vibrations, and voicing frustration can make it disappear. Convoluted pain ironed out by articulation. He means you wrote it out of your system. ((((hug)))) kenny

"Love abounds and dresses down the negative of dying" Death is the culmination of life and should only be viewed as such, when someone departs us a celebration of their life is in order. A toast to them and to those parts of themselves they shared with us. This write is so deep I can barely find the words to express my true feelings about it. Your insight overwhelms me. Pierre.

This is a very deep poem, going to the depth of despair only to rise to wisdom and light. "Love abounds and dresses down the negative of dying". Dying can be looked at as positive, a bridge to an unknown ecstacy. No wonder Francis of Assisi called her Sister Death. Victor
